CHAPTER 13

Identities & Factorization

13.1 Algebraic Identities
NameFormula
Difference of Squares$a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)$
Perfect Square (Sum)$(a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2$
Perfect Square (Diff)$(a-b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2$
13.2 Factorization Methods

⚡ Four Steps to Factorize

1. Common Factor → Extract GCF

2. Use Identities → Difference of squares, perfect square

3. Grouping → For 4+ terms

4. Cross Method → For $ax^2 + bx + c$

Example

Factorize $x^2 + 5x + 6$

📝 Solution

Find two numbers: product = 6, sum = 5 → 2 and 3

$= (x+2)(x+3)$
